Spring is in Your Step!

Sunday, May 29th, 2011

According to many seniors and older adults, the Spring season brings with it feelings of renewal, rebirth and rejuvenation. The snow melts away, the sun grows hotter and slowly but surely the brown grass beneath the winter frost turns to green. As the ground thaws and the buds begin to grow on the trees outside your home, consider all of the seasonal activities you can do in the upcoming months.

Outdoor Exercises
What better excuse to get the blood flowing throughout your body than a change of seasons? Incorporate various outdoor activities into your daily routine. Take in some fresh air three to four times a week by talking a short walk around the block or meeting a friend for some Tai Chi in the local park.

Spring Cleaning
Match the outside freshness with a fresh home on the inside; it’s time for Spring cleaning! Get rid of the old and bring in the new. Go slowly, listen to your body and take lots of breaks as you tackle the winter grub from top to bottom. De-clutter and scrub clean all those areas you forgot about during the long winter months.

Arts and Crafts Invite your grandchildren over for some fun arts and crafts on the backyard patio table. Make paper airplanes, macaroni necklaces or flying kites.

Gardening Plant your favorite flowers and shrubs around your home. Start a mini herb garden in your backyard or on your balcony and grow fresh basil, oregano, chives, thyme, rosemary and dill. Spice up your Spring cooking with freshly grown herbs.
